Highbank Primary and Nursery School

Curriculum

At our school, we have created a rich and exciting 3D curriculum that helps children know more and remember more as they move through each year. Learning is carefully planned to build on what has come before, with enrichment opportunities, local studies in geography and history, and author studies to bring the curriculum to life. We also make sure that pupils learn about and celebrate protected characteristics, so that they develop understanding, respect, and curiosity about the wider world.

Our whole-school curriculum map shows what each year group is learning. While the map sets out plans for Years 1–6, some of our classes are mixed-year groups. To make sure children don’t repeat the same materials, we teach in a cycle. For the year 2025/26, we are following Cycle A. This means that Years 3/4 will follow the Year 3 curriculum map, and Years 5/6 will follow the Year 5 curriculum map. Where older year groups are working with younger year group plans, we add extra objectives so that all pupils meet the full expectations of the National Curriculum.

Please click on the documents below to see more detail about our 3D curriculum approach and the curriculum map.
